The choice of dual-frequency RFID cards for access control and identity verification is primarily to balance convenience and security, and to meet the needs of more complex application scenarios.

Feature:

LF(125KHz)

1.Good penetration: Can penetrate the human body, water, and non-metallic materials, unaffected by human obstruction.

2.Short reading distance: Typically 5-10 cm, requiring close-range card swiping.

3.Low security: Card number is transmitted in plaintext, extremely easy to copy and clone (can be copied using a regular card reader).

4.Slow speed: Low data transmission rate.

5.Low cost: Both cards and card readers are relatively inexpensive.

HF (typically 13.56MHz)

1.Moderate reading distance: Typically 5-10 cm, but can be extended with optimized antennas.

2.High security: Supports encrypted communication and two-way authentication, making data difficult to steal and copy. Chips like MIFARE DESFire offer extremely high security.

3.High speed: High data transfer rate.

4.Multiple functions: The chip has partitioned storage space, allowing for the writing of data other than card numbers (such as employee information, transaction balance, and access records).

5.NFC support: Smartphones' NFC function is based on this frequency band, facilitating extended functions such as card issuance and verification via mobile phones.

Why choose a card that combines dual frequency (LF + HF)?

Advantages:

1.Balancing Security and Convenience

Scenario: In a workplace or industrial park, some older access control systems still use low-frequency cards, while the new system needs to be upgraded to a more secure high-frequency system.

Solution: Use dual-frequency cards. The low-frequency portion is compatible with the old system, allowing employees to continue using one card to open doors in older buildings; the high-frequency portion is used in the new system for access control, attendance, and internal transactions in the new building, enjoying high security. This avoids the inconvenience of requiring employees to carry two cards during the transition period.

2.Achieving "One Card, Multiple Uses" and Zoned Management

Scenario: A single card needs to be used for physical access control, identity verification (such as logging into computers, entering confidential areas), and possibly for cafeteria transactions.

Solution:

Low-frequency portion: Specifically designed for ordinary physical access control with low security requirements. Fast reading speed and sensitive response.

High-frequency portion:

High-security access control: Used in critical areas such as server rooms and finance offices, requiring encrypted authentication.

Identity Verification: Log in to the computer system via a card reader; high-frequency encryption prevents account theft.

Electronic Wallet: Securely store balance in the high-frequency chip's storage area when making purchases at cafeterias and convenience stores.

3.Enhanced Anti-Copying and Anti-Tailgating Capabilities

Simple low-frequency cards are easily copied. Attackers can remotely read the card number in your pocket and then create an identical copy.

With dual-frequency cards, even if an attacker copies the low-frequency portion of the card number, they cannot copy the encrypted data on the high-frequency portion. For critical areas (using high-frequency card readers), copied low-frequency cards are ineffective. This significantly improves the overall system security.

4.Adaptable to Complex Environments

In environments with abundant metal or strong signal interference, a single frequency band may be unstable. Dual-frequency cards provide redundancy. For example, if the high-frequency signal is interfered with, at least the low-frequency portion can still guarantee basic access control functions.
